STONYHURST SOUTHVILLE FOR OTHERS (SSFO) ASSISTS VOLCANO ERUPTION VICTIMS

Stonyhurst Southville for Others (SSFO) assists the victims of the Taal Volcano eruption which recently caused major evacuations of nearby towns.  After more than 40 years of remaining quiet, the Taal Volcano erupted last January 12, 2020 (Sunday) spewing thick ashes and devastating the islands.

Lipa City, where Stonyhurst Southville International School – Malarayat is located, is at 18-20 kms away from the volcano and outside of the pronounced danger zone of the eruption; however, ash falls were felt in the city as well.  To ensure safety, the local government had declared suspension of classes for all public and private schools in the province until the Alert Level has gone down to a manageable degree.

Immediately, the team of teachers and staff gathered their resources, through its Outreach Program, Stonyhurst Southville for Others (SSFO). to assist in this tragedy.  They conducted a Campaign to solicit donations – both in kind and monetary – from its community.  Aside from this, the teachers and staff visited different evacuation centers in the area and provided the evacuees with educational and moral support.  Children were given activities like Read Aloud, Silent Reading, Coloring, Singing, Exercising and Dancing.  The adults also joined the programs; and expressed their sentiments and needs.  Click photo below to see a glimpse of touching moments in the evacuation centers…

SSFO for Taal will continue until help is needed.  The school is asking for your prayers and support.  We are still receiving donations for this endeavor – in cash or in kind.  You may drop them at our school campus anytime, or use the following details for your remittance:
