Stonyhurst Southville International School – Malarayat proved itself once again in the field of Math and Science during the second leg of the Regional Battle of Science and Mathematics Champions held last November 17, 2019 in St. Francis of Assisi, Cavite, with 13 of its students qualifying for nationals.
Out of 43 schools, Stonyhurst Southville bagged awards in different competitions and categories. The Kings dominated by landing into the Top 20 during the qualifying round, competing against approximately 110 participants. In Mathematics, the top qualifiers are Kyros Huey Abanilla, Julien Santi Avenir, Ishwa Rya Gamoso, Prinx Savier Cortez, Rod Jacob Manalo, Jefferson Mendoza, Keisha Sophia Mission, and Irish Balahadia, with Abanilla getting the top score among all Grade 1 students. Meanwhile, qualifiers in Science included Keane Argen Gutierrez, Alexandra Christine Bascon, Casey Yohan Resuello and Hannah Yzabelle De Torres.
In the end, thirteen students made it to Top Ten, qualifying them for the national competition. Congratulations to the Quiz Bee winners for Math (Grade 1) – Kyros Huey Abanilla, 2nd Place and Julien Santi Avenir, 4th Place; Math (Grade 2) – Prinx Savier Cortez, 2nd Place, Rod Jacob Manalo, 4th Place and Jefferson Mendoza, 10th Place; Math (Grade 3) – Keisha Sophia Mission, 2nd Place and Irish Balahadia, 5th Place. For Science, Keane Argen Gutierrez snatched 6th Place in Grade 1, while the Science Investigation Team composed of Francesca Margarita Geriana Amata, John Carl Gabino, Prince Aaron Emanuel Orquita, Alexandra Nicole Katigbak and Samantha Victoria Umali won 3rd Place.
Organized by the Association of Science and Mathematics Educators of Philippine Private Schools (ASMEPPS), the Regional Battle of Science and Mathematics Champions aims to showcase the scientific and mathematical talents and abilities of the learners and coaches, promote the academic excellence, and create intellectual camaraderie and sportsmanship among the participants.
