The first SGEN Scholar’s Cup was held last February 27, 2020, in Southville International Schools and Colleges, Las Piñas. The event hosted two competitions – the Scholar’s Bowl and the Spelling Bee. In the end, Stonyhurst Lipa (composed of Michael Tongson, PJ Lee, and Alyanna Marquez) outperformed the 7 other competing teams, as they reigned as CHAMPIONS in the Scholar’s Bowl.
While the KINGS bested the Scholar’s Bowl, Second & Third Place went to SSIS-Batangas. Meanwhile, for the Spelling Bee, Southville International Schools and Colleges bagged the First Place; while Second & Third was snatched by South Mansfield College.
Stonyhurst Southville International School – Malarayat/Lipa was hailed as First Runner Up Over-all in the whole competition, with 12 Grade School participants total for both Spelling and Quiz Bee competitions.
SGEN stands for Southville Global Education Network and is composed of 7 schools in the cities of Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Paranaque, Lipa and Batangas. The SGEN Scholar’s Cup is the first SGEN competition that is catered to Grade School students. Participating schools were Southville International Schools and Colleges, South Mansfield College, Stonyhurst Southville International School – Malarayat/Lipa and Stonyhurst Southville International School – Batangas City.
